16-17 May 2017, Putrajaya - The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) in collaboration with the Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) has successfully organised the 11th Muzakarah Cendekiawan Syariah Nusantara (Regional Shariʻah Scholar Dialogue)―newly rebranded as Muzakarah―at the Marriot Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia. The main objective of the Muzakarah, which is conducted in Malay language, is to establish a common understanding among Shariʻah scholars in the ASEAN region through discussions on various issues pertaining to Islamic finance. This event also aims to provide a regional platform for Shariʻah scholars and practitioners to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience, and to share the latest developments in the Islamic finance industry.
Muzakarah 11 was officiated by Mr. Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). Muzakarah 11 was attended by more than 200 delegates comprising Shariʻah scholars, academicians, Islamic finance practitioners and regulators from different countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Based on the theme ‘Post BNM Shariʻah Standards: Between Ideals and Realities’, five papers deliberated on the issue of Combination of Bayʻ wa Salaf: Theory and Practice. Meanwhile, eight slide presentations discussed the Application of the Musharakah Contract in Islamic Financial Products: Issues and Challenges. In total, more than 16 speakers and discussants contributed to the presentations and dialogue sessions in Muzakarah 11.
