Fintech & Entrepreneurship
10 Oct 2017, Kuala Lumpur - The International Sharīʻah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) today organised its inaugural Islamic Fintech Dialogue 2017 (IFD 2017) themed, ‘Fintech and Entrepreneurship’. The Dialogue was held on 10 Oct 2017 at Lanai Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Islamic Fintech Dialogue is organised to provide a platform for Sharīʻah scholars and Islamic finance practitioners to engage with the growing financial technology (fintech) ecosystem. The new wave of fintech has raised various concerns and misconceptions. Hence, the dialogue is meant to be an avenue where all parties will share their views and ways to collaborate to support the development of the Islamic finance industry. An estimated 200 international and local delegates are expected to attend this event.
The Islamic Fintech Dialogue is organized in such a format to allow speakers, who are experts in their area, to share openly the opportunities and challenges they foresee in the industry. The panellist will discuss areas such as Blockchain, Shariah Governance, Shariah-Compliance, Crowdfunding, Robo-Advisory, Smart Contracts, Crypto-currency, Microfinancing, Islamic finance, etc.
En. Marzunisham Omar, Assistant Governor, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will deliver the opening remarks while Prof. Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, Executive Director, ISRA will, in turn, deliver the welcoming remarks. He is of the oppinion that "FINTECH is an exciting development in Islamic finance, and Shari’ah scholars must ensure they are up to date on it. This rapidly developing innovation will need timely Shari’ah solutions to enable Islamic finance to keep pace with technology."
The event also includes a session on entrepreneurship, an exciting by-product of the modern-day fintech boom. The industry has witnessed a number of start-ups and entrepreneurs who have been inspired by the various roles in the development of the Islamic economy, from social entrepreneurs to community-based start-ups.
