OBJECTIVE

Building on the success of the past three conferences, INCEIF, LUMS, Universitat Jaume I and Universitat de València will hold the 4th IFBBE Conference with the theme Building New Finance through Inclusion, Sustainability and Ethics. The aim of this year’s conference is to continue the debate, focusing on financial inclusion and stability, sustainability and ethics. Our aim is to bring together leading members of the academic, policymaking, private sector practitioners and development communities to discuss recent and new developments, and to exchange their cutting-edge ideas on these issues. The conference will allow participants to gain deeper understanding on these great matters that impact the lives of billions of people. These issues are of utmost importance, as related matters such as banking fragility, extreme financial market volatility, climate change and inequality are threatening the way we live and the future of our planet. Notwithstanding the issue of morality and the importance of good governance.

The conference will provide an excellent platform to discuss and clarify major issues that need to be bridged between theory and practice, business units and regulators. This conference also seeks to bring together scholars and professional engaged in research (both practical and academic) on the growth and development of finance and economics to present their research paper/ideas to a broader audience. In addition, it will also facilitate the collection and dissemination of knowledge through the publication of selected papers in good journals and policy reports. This is to ensure that discussions will not be merely academic but translated to high impact initiatives through policies’ formulation.

The 4th conference will be held on 16th and 17th of September, 2019. Univeristat Jaume I and Universitat de València will host this year’s event, providing the venue and local hospitalities. This event is scheduled to be held at Universitat de València, Spain.

  • To contribute to sustainable transformations of society through socio-economic policies, politics and institutional reforms, and innovation in technology.
  • To promote ethics in business as the large part of literature particularly of the Islamic seems to be either theologically oriented or superficial and inadequate in its assessment.
  • To enhance financial inclusion through formal and non-formal financial institutions.
  • To address climate change through sustainable and responsible investments.

RATIONALE

In the wake of rapid changes in global economy and new challenges facing the humanity, there is a need for scholars and academics to formulate new thoughts and reevaluate the existing theories and policies. Effective polices and initiatives are indeed required to address the widening gap between the rich and poor, disruption due to digital innovation, rising protectionism and many more poignant matters.

Notwithstanding the continuous discussion and conversation that are currently taking place among academicians, this conference aims to address specific issues related to inclusion, sustainability and ethics. In particular, the conference will address questions such as:

  • How to contribute to sustainable transformations of society through socio-economic policies, politics and institutional reforms, and innovation in technology.
  • How to promote ethics in business, since a large part of the literature (particularly the Islamic one) seems to be either theologically oriented or superficial and inadequate in its assessment.
  • How to enhance financial inclusion through formal and non-formal financial institutions.
  • How to address climate change through sustainable and responsible investments.
