This research discusses a new financing instrument for social projects—called Social Impact Bonds (SIBs)—that has recently emerged to address the needs of the underprivileged. It undertakes a brief Sharīʿah analysis on SIBs, specifically examining some nominate Islamic contracts that share some resemblance with SIBs as well as some of the arising issues in SIBs.
