Jaiz, an Islamic banking system has finalized arrangements to begin operations in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The Executive Director of the bank, Alhaji Abdul Fatai Amoo disclosed this at an Iftar Saaim programme of feeding of fasting Muslims held on Sunday in Akure, the sunshine state capital.
Amoo said the initiation had been part of the vision and strategy to reach out to all the states of the federation adding that they have been further encouraged with the enthusiasm seen in the audience at the event to fast track the establishment.
According to him, the bank collaborates with relevant organizations and operates within the tenants of Islamic religion which is guided by the objectives of the Sharia.
He said part of the tenets of Islamic banking is that it is not just about making money but also dwell in the general well being of the people and society. “So, it is part of the fundamental requirement that we cater to the kind of needs of the people",
His words: "so as you get this income, you cannot earn it as an Islamic bank rather you transfer such funds to the foundation which will reach out to members of the community as the case may be".
The Executive Secretary of Jaize Charity Foundation Imam Abdullah Shuaib . who spoke with Journalists said humanitarian was one of the propelling factors for the establishment of the foundation.
"The window of our social responsibility does not discriminate whether you are a Muslim or not. The only attribute that qualifies you is your humanity, we want to ensure that we complement the effort of Government in area of trying to build capacity of the children to be self employed and employers of labour", he explained.
The Facilitator of the programme, Alhaji Jimoh Ibrahim, former Chairman if the Muslim Welfare Board in the state said the programme was necessitated to meet the aspiration and yearnings of f the Muslims in the state.
In his speech, the Executive Director of the Jaize Charity foundation Imam Abdullahi Shuaib appreciated the warm reception given at the occasion and seeks for the cooperation of all the Muslims particularly in the payment of Zakaat which he said could be done online through the Jauz mobile banking.
Shuaib said the foundation was created as a window to carry out the social responsibility of the bank through various sectors in education, medical, community projects, economic empowerment, rescue mission, agricultural entrepreneurial development scheme among others.
In his goodwill message, the Zaki of Arigidi Akoko, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, urged the banking officials to appreciate faithfuls in Yoruba lands for the peaceful co-existence among the religion groups which is not done in some other states. .
Olanipekun charged them to expidiate action to ensure that the bank is established before the year runs out and on the need of opening branches throughout the entire state and not only in Akure alone.
Earlier ,a lecture titled "Ramadan: The month of Charity was presented by Alhaji Musa Abdurrauf Akanji who advised people on the importance of giving alms saying that it is pleasant in the face of the creator.
He said, Ramadan entails fasting and giving alms to the less privilege which may contribute to making heaven on the Day of Judgment.
Present at the occasion included the representative of the the Olubaka of Oka, high chief Jamiu Aiyemowa, the State commissioner for Natural Resources, Alhaji Abdur-Rasheed Badmus, representative of the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom who is the Mufasir of Akure, Alhaji Moshood Raji Keuyemi, the Aare Musulumi Akure, Alhaji Nurain Akorede, Muslim organisations and others.
